Canine Cough (aka Kennel Cough)
Your Pet’s Health Is Our Top Priority
At Four Paws Bed and Bath, we take every precaution to keep your pet safe, happy, and healthy. We maintain strict cleaning protocols and require current vaccinations, including Bordetella, to help prevent contagious illnesses like canine cough (kennel cough). However, even vaccinated dogs may still contract it—just like people can catch a cold despite having a flu shot.
What is Canine Cough?
Canine cough is a highly contagious respiratory condition spread through:
-
Airborne droplets from coughing or sneezing
-
Direct dog-to-dog contact
-
Contaminated surfaces or shared items
Common symptoms include:
-
Dry, honking cough
-
Sneezing or nasal discharge
-
Mild lethargy or reduced appetite
-
Symptoms may appear up to 10 days after exposure
Only a veterinarian can diagnose and treat this illness.
Our Commitment
-
Daily disinfecting of all areas and equipment
-
Immediate isolation of any dog showing symptoms
-
Prompt owner notification
-
Vaccine requirements for all guests
Your Role in Prevention
-
Do not bring sick pets to our facility
-
Notify us if your dog is diagnosed after their stay

Please Note:
While we do everything possible to reduce risk, canine cough can still occur in group settings. As with school children and colds, treatment is the owner’s responsibility.
